We all have certainly been in a crowded
space with screaming babies and people talking and yelling as if it’s the end
of the world. Solution? headphones. Sure, that’s not the only
reason why we buy wireless headphones,
or why these are a boon to mankind. If you have a screaming and nagging wife or
if your boss is an unbelievable talk
show freak, just plug them in and you’re good to go! There are tons of other
reasons as well and today we will delve a little into the history of how they
came into being and how they have evolved over the years.
Ambient noise isn’t ways pleasant and thus
eliminating it is the best thing possible. These stunning pieces were the
brainchild of a certain Dr. Amare Bose, who invented the first noise
cancellation pieces and was the leading manufacturer of these for a while,
until other brands started producing the same. Amare Bose has even said that he
conceived the idea of wireless
headphones on a noisy commercial flight. In fact, there was a long gap between
its invention and it’s availability to the general public to purchase.
Technically speaking, any type
of headphone can provide some passive noise reduction. This is due to the
fact that the material used in building any headphone is such that, it helps
reduce ambient sound to some extent. But it couldn’t do the job of completely
eliminating the noise, and that is where active versions of these headphones
come into the picture. These versions add an extra level of noise reduction by
actively erasing lower-frequency sound waves. Thus the best wireless headphones are usually
very light weight, as they do not have any extra padding or foam covering.
Bose was not the only one who invented this
technology. Audio giant Sennheizer was quick to follow with their own version
of it. Both these brands designed and started selling their prototypes for air
force pilots in their country’s military and instantly became a hit. After
this, the headphones hit the general market and turned out to be a rage among
followers. Considered the best headphones of their time, this
technology was something that really created a buzz in the market. Today,
active noise-cancelling is a science employed by many headphone companies but
none can come close to what Bose has to offer in this department.
Since these pieces are able to cancel 70%
of the ambient sounds, they are ideal for airline and train travel, open office
environments or any other location with a high level of background noise.
Today, there are many innovations happening in the field and the demand has
helped in increasing capital that goes into the research bit for newer
technology and the cycle continues. Wirelessheadphones are probably the best thing that happened for humanity who loves
to listen to music and not the screeching and screaming that goes on in the
background.
